APPAREL DESIGN for a THE SUMMER 2021 STANFORD JAZZ WORKSHOP.
Founded in 1972, Stanford Jazz Workshop (SJW) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to jazz education and appreciation. For over four decades, SJW has been bringing the best jazz performers and educators together with students of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds, in summer jazz immersion programs such as the Giant Steps Day Camp, Jazz Camp, and Jazz Institute.
THE STORY BEHIND THE APPAREL DESIGN
The Stanford Jazz Workshop is an organization that I have been affiliated with for over 5 years. For the past several summer's, I have been involved with SJW as an instructor, counselor, and performer. When I was approached to design the t-shirt for the summer 2021 camp - I came up with roughly 13 designs. The camp comprises of mostly junior high and high school age students - so my goal with the design was to create something sleek with a retro look that I know teenagers would love and would connect with.
Creating a t-shirt design that kids and teenagers could connect with in order to boost sales while serving members that attended both in-person and virtually.
The apparel design proved to be successful among the students and members of SJW as the t-shirts sold out despite the camp occurring during a year where half of the members of the camp attended virtually due to the global pandemic.
